3 Museums not to be missed on the Euganean Hills

Today May 18, World Museum Day is celebrated, to globally recall the importance of these containers of history that allow the spread of culture and the preservation of the historical and artistic heritage of any place.

Just few minutes by car (o really a few steps) from our Hotel Petrarca Terme you will find 3 museums that tell about our territory and our origin.

The Museum of ancient spas and the territory, Montegrotto Terme (1 km far from our hotel)

It was born in the heart of Montegrotto Terme and combines two souls: thermal environment, as a millenary tradition of the Euganean area, and the territory, because the museum brings to light other distinctive aspects of our territory.

Within its walls, it jealously preserves the unpublished and extraordinary finds found in the archaeological areas of Montegrotto Terme, which tell of a distant past, and of an extraordinary relevance.

This museum is interactive, immersive and customizable for a multidimensional and true visiting experience; it allows you to embark on a real interactive, dynamic and multisensory journey through spa and its secrets.

An immersive room will introduce the wonders of the thermal water formation process while an interactive map will allow you to explore ancient spas in space and time.

A contemporary and personalized oracle will bring to life the experience of divination as perceived in the past, while a floor installation will immerse you in the waters of the thermal springs of the Euganean area.

The reproduction of an ancient thermal water transport system will make it possible to understand the more technical aspects of spas and will give the opportunity to play at moving an ancient machine to understand the functioning of each of its parts.

Virtual reconstructions will then take you back through the centuries, immersing you in the beauties of the past.

A multisensory timeline will then allow you to insert spas ina correct dialogue with history.

River Navigation Museum, Battaglia Terme (6,7 km far from our hotel)

The river junction of Battaglia Terme, formed by the intersection of even four waterways for centuries was the focus of intense commercial exchanges and trading, based on the activity of so-called “barcari” (boatmen), the experienced sailors of river navigation.

The testimonies of these tireless workers’ lives and the history of their activities are told in the Museum of River Navigation at Battaglia Terme.

This is a unique museum of its kind, founded on the initiative of former “barcari” who have collected all materials and documents with the purpose of preserving memory of their ancient craft.

The Museum of River Navigation at Battaglia Terme consists of five sections illustrating the types of boats, the equipment, the waterway system of the territory, the evolution of the means of propulsion and objects of life on board the boats.

An outdoor section allows to watch some ancient cargo or service boats floating in the waters of the canal adjacent to the museum.

Museo Nazionale Atestino, Este (23,7 km far from our hotel)

The Archaeological Museum of Este is located in a beautiful sixteenth-century building and could be considered an environment to live: it is the gateway to a distant and unknown world, that of the ancient Venetians, which belongs to our community and makes us retrace our origins.

The museum houses the most representative archaeological materials of the culture of the ancient Venetians, who lived in this region throughout the first millennium BC.

Through eleven rooms the visitor will be able to discover the evolution of an ancient Italic civilization dedicated to flourishing craft and mercantile activities.

The Roman section illustrates the transformation of the city of Ateste, while a small section is dedicated to medieval, Renaissance and modern ceramics.

Inside the museum there is also a specialist library consisting of approximately 4400 volumes.
